MERCI JUDAH...

Mon Frere JUDAH blessed me with this one day as I was departing a cypher a chez Judah. He thought I might like it...and he was right!!! I took the cd back and copied it immediately onto my MAC...Od'ing on it for the duration of my stay a Paris!
[This and all of the other music I was able to copy was unfortunately lost to me when someone STOLE MY MAC from an acquaintance's house last year!!!]
Fortunately for me the vibration lasted and I now have the music back with me!!!

AURAL FIXATION...
SMART ART...
Here is the thing about this young man...and his BRETHREN...THEY LISTENED! I love it. This speaks to me in the same vein as FIRE NEXT TIME. I am astounded by the lyricism both of the artist and in the production. He speaks in the language of the day...to his peers...but something about the tone let's you know he wants us ALL to HEAR.
AND FLOW... Not since SNOOP have I been so dazzled! Sure there are folks that have mastered the ART of RAPPING, but it is the rare few that have an INNATE FLOW. RAKIM, SLICK RICK, TIP, BUTTERFLY, SNOOP and now KENDRICK. It is EFFORTLESS and you can feel it. I VIBE THAT.
He is doing this BECAUSE...He/IT IS.
I get excited when I hear...feel...vibe ART like this. It re-contexualizes the medium. He is a PEAK...a clearing in a pool that has been muddied by Drone-y, MEDIOCRE RAP, Be-DAZZLED to DISTRACT from the DisTILLED LYRICism!!!

Hmmm...
This was one of the first cds that I ever bought.
I discovered after purchasing my first cd player for myself. The INITIAL purchase was a SONY 3-CD Changer...but it kept getting stuck. Back it went, making my TRUE First an AWAI 1-disc. I'd gotten 3 cds from this HMV...by chance. Ask Rufus by RUFUS and CHAKA KAHN, LOVE SUPREME, John Coltrane and this. I am fool for a shuffle...when it doesn't get stuck. LUCKY ME...mine did. I was forced to listen to each of those ...individually...absorbing every note and nuance. I am not certain why I picked those three. I only selections from each of the artists...however...the exhilaration I felt as their stories unfolded before me...in my bedroom...on that sunny W.Orange Day.
With every note something in me opened up...just GENIUS. Suffice to say, like BRANDY and SWV before him...I OBSESSED!!! Every waking moment I poured over and sung...forth and back and forth. I am ...[drifting]
